Bought this chest, looking for an additional layer of protection within my larger fireproof safe, and because the dimensions were the best available for my needs. It arrived poorly packaged, with four of eight corners damaged. Was able to fix the sheetmetal damage – disregard the cosmetic appearance. The lid appears to be too large for the case. There’s an extra one-quarter inch clearance between each of the four sides of the lid and the case. I question the fireproof capability with those large gaps in the insulation. It wasn’t worth sending back. So, I kept the first one and reordered another – same issues with the second one. I would return both if they were my only fireproof barrier, but since I keep them both in a large, fine quality fire and waterproof safe, they’ll do as a simple additional lockbox with some [anticipated] additional fire protection.
Come on, Amazon – how about some effective Quality Control within your Shipping Department. Sometimes Amazon ships with the perfect and most creative packaging. Other times the packaging is almost non-effective. Even though, I’ll keep Amazon.com as my primary source for online shopping.

This box is well made and just the right size to store our important documents (passports, titles, insurance policies, most recent tax returns) without having to fold them. It is easy to carry and store. We live in a hurricane area and need to be able to grab our most important stuff and run if a big storm comes our way. The price was fair and it was delivered promptly.

I got what I paid for and it works as described. I just figured that it would be a little more heavy-duty and theft resistant. Basically, it’s a metal box with a cabinet key lock; I guess I was expecting a “safe”; which this product is not.
Next time, I’m buying a safe!

These are great sturdy lock boxes; love the size and they are light weight. I would have given you a 5 star review if one of the boxes was not damaged.
Looks as though someome dropped it as the outer portion is slightly scratched, the lock was slightly bent and the handle was detached and had to be pried open to attach to handle.
It was not worth the trouble of returning the item, as I took a pair of pliers and fixed the lock and handle. The lock is still a bit tight, but at least it works now.
I’m thinking of ordering another one but if this arrives in the same condition,I will return this next item.

I found this size box fits my letter-size documents without a problem. I primarily use this fire retardant box as a box within a big safe as added protection for important original documents.
