Over 102 Million Americans Drive Alone to Work

Despite growing concerns over global warming, a study recently released by the US Census Bureau reveals that 77 percent of Americans drive alone to work. For more information, see the article first published in the Christian Science Monitor.
The conclusion is once again that Americans will not make any significant changes in our daily routines until it hurts, a lot, in the wallet.
While many places in the US do not have readily accessible public transportation, we in and around Washington do, and according to a 2006 study by SustainLane, we’re doing a decent job of using it.
The Washington, DC region was ranked number one for alternative commuting in the study which ranks cities by sustainability using various criteria such as access to public transport, road safety and use of walking and biking to work. Not bad, but we’re still only 12th overall …
